Winslow Township Elementary School #4 provides educational opportunities for approximately 500 students in pre-kindergarten through third grade. With a strong emphasis on student achievement, School #4 focuses on New Jersey’s Student Learning Standards and provides opportunities for teachers to grow and learn professionally. When developing a strong literacy foundation for our youngest learners, Winslow Township Elementary School #4 provides a balanced literacy approach with a focus on whole group reading, shared reading, guided reading, phonemic awareness and word study, independent reading, writing mini-lessons, and independent writing. Teachers have access to both fiction and nonfiction leveled books to meet the needs of all learners and strategies acquired through small group instruction provide students with abilities to become life-long independent readers. Maintaining the belief that all students can learn, we will fail to wait, rather than wait for students to fail. Providing the best academic setting for all learners remains a priority that is met with multiple measures. Through our Response to Intervention Model, School #4 students are provided with literacy interventions or accelerations in specific areas that are the result of analyzed data from district assessments. Intervention and Referral Services is a committee that includes parents and provides additional support for students in areas of deficit by developing goals and monitoring them closely. Meeting rising standards and rigor, academic programs implemented in all classrooms meet students and teachers on their academic journey. At the pre-kindergarten level, classrooms remain student-centered with the use of Creative Curriculum. In grades kindergarten through third grade, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Into Reading and Go Math, are the programs implemented at high levels of efficacy in order to develop young minds with a strong academic foundation. Our Science program provides opportunities for students to receive standard driven instruction through hands-on activities and projects. Complementing the Science program is our STEM program in third grade, which provides opportunities for students to work collaboratively while improving problem-solving skills. The heightened interest in our STEM program has impacted students in earlier grades as teachers incorporated lessons as well. With an emphasis on teaching students to thrive and be successful, character education opportunities are infused in lessons provided by the School Counselor and in the Social Studies program. Winslow Township Elementary School #4 students receive a well-rounded education that supports their academic learning in settings such as Art, Computers, Gym, Library, and Music. Programs such as English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented, and Special Education provide opportunities for students to receive strategic instruction. Support provided by the School Counselor, Child Study Team, and School Nurse provides opportunities for students to grow and learn socially and emotionally. We look forward to helping your child reach his/her highest potential. Yours respectfully, Lori Kelly Principal |
